Sheffield Wednesday defender Yan Valery appears set to be loaned out to Swiss side Young Boys and is likely to miss the trip to Swansea City, according to reports The star.

Sheffield Wednesday were defeated by Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday evening as their slow descent towards League One continued. Eiran Cashin scored the only goal in a 1-0 defeat that lacked quality on either side.

SWFC handed over involvement to three of their winter signings, with Murphy Cooper, Jayden Heskey and Jerry Yates all provided. Great Nakamba and Joel Ndala also made an appearance, as did Tayo Adamamola on Sunday.

Despite the window slamming shut in Britain on Monday, Wednesday’s transfer activity is not over yet. The star report that the club is on the verge of losing another experienced player in the form of Yan Valery.

Valery looks set to join Swiss side Young Boys on loan and is likely to miss the trip to Swansea City. The defender was linked with a move to several Championship sides in January.

Valery has been a hugely important player for Henrik Pedersen

In a season of struggle for Sheffield Wednesday, Valery was a player Pedersen leaned on. The defender’s experience and versatility have been crucial for the SWFC boss in his first managerial role.

Although his main position is right back, he has also been deployed in midfield under Pedersen.

Valery, a Tunisian international with twenty caps to his name, joined his current club in 2024. During his first season he played forty games in all competitions and scored three goals.

The French-born defender was on the books of Southampton from 2015 to 2022, a period that included a loan spell at Birmingham City. He then spent two years in France near Angers before returning to England.

Sheffield Wednesday’s squad is in a better place after late arrivals

Sheffield Wednesday have already been relegated to League One. The damage was done last summer, compounded by a total of 18 points deducted by the Football League.

Although mathematically it is no less, the fact that we are on -7 points with almost a third of the season having been played means that not even a miracle can save SWFC. Still, their winter signings should make them more competitive in the second half of the season.

It has been a dismal season at Hillsborough and Pedersen will be hoping his strengthened squad can at least deliver a slight improvement in results, even if their fate already appears sealed.

Adamarola adds competition on the left, while free transfer arrival Nakamba is expected to replace the experience lost with the departure of Barry Bannan. Heskey and Ndala bring youthful energy, and the Owls have a striker with proven Championship pedigree in Yates.
