The eyes of Manchester United fans around the world are on Shea Lacey heading into the busy winter period.
That’s because supporters are keen to see academy prodigies get their chance in the first team, and the 18-year-old seems to be the closest to breaking through this campaign.
He has been taking part in senior training almost every week, and with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad heading to AFCON next month, a spot at the top is up for grabs.
With Joshua Zirkzee’s future up in the air and Benjamin Sesko out for a month, the England U20 international will be confident of making his debut.
Shea Lacey almost made his debut against Sunderland
According to The Daily Mailthe Liverpool-born striker was so close to making his debut against Sunderland at Old Trafford. He considered being included in the matchday squad before the head coach pulled the plug at the last minute.
“Lacey is the clear frontrunner to make his first-team debut between now and January, while Jack Fletcher, who Amorim really likes, is second.
“Lacey would have come very close to making the bench for Sunderland’s home game before falling one place short.
“But with Mbeumo and Diallo leaving the right side for AFCON, the opportunities are knocking. And now that Wilcox and Amorim have taken a hands-on approach to his training and playing program in recent weeks, this feels imminent.”
Several EFL clubs are monitoring developments and are prepared to offer a loan agreement to INEOS. The Red Devils do not intend to accept such an offer.
United will not loan him out
“EFL scouts have turned up in droves in recent months, all on different assignments, some often there to watch the same player.
“There is a lot of interest in Shea Lacey, but United currently have no attractive offers for the 18-year-old.”
Not only at club level, but the United teenager is also making waves internationally. He recently opened his account for the England U20s and was called up to train with the England senior team and the England U21s.
That shows how highly regarded he is, and it’s only a matter of time before he finally makes his mark on the Theater of Dreams.
