‘She came with a broken nose’: Import’s whirlwind starts in Super Netball

7 minutes, 48 seconds Read

While we are the rim to the half point of the season, there is one thing that all supernetball teams struggle with: consistency.

Even the unbeaten NSW Swifts had not done a complete performance of 60 minutes until Sunday, when they succeeded in winning their first opening quarter in a month against Cross-Town rivals De Giants.

The platform put that for them to conquer all four periods, 82-69, in what was a surprising high-scoring affair between the top and bottom of the ladder.

Sunshine Coast Lightning went to second place with a 62-50 victory over the Melbourne Vixens. Simone McKinnis then shocked us all by announcing at the end of this season that she would resign as head coach of Vixens.

The Round match was played between the Adelaide Thunderbirds and West Coast Fever, where the Jamaican goal of each team continued their race to 9,000 goals.

Jhaniele Fowler-Membhard added 53 to her count in the triumph of the fever, 67-61, and is now 12 goals away from the milestone.

The Melbourne Mavericks establish a decent record in Hobart after beating the Queensland Firebirds, 71-64, in their second appearance ever on the Apple Isle.

If you have missed it, you will not be worried about our Super Netball Round-up.

McKinnis Belt time

In round five, McKinnis coached her 200th game in the National Netball League.

In round six, she quietly announced her decision to leave the role she fed for 13 seasons.

Although her contract has risen at the end of the year and the team is currently seventh with only two wins, according to all reports, this was the decision of Simone that she came to her own conditions.

The players were told in the days prior to the game and throw tears while the news was made public. Captain Kate Moloney said it suddenly felt real and that the announcement should be sufficient motivation for the team to keep itself responsible and to reverse their season.

As a coach, McKinnis supplied two Premierships (2014 and 2020) and brought the Vixens to four major finals, including last year. De Vixens have the reputation to be a very clinical team with high standards and McKinnis has demanded excellence and takes care of its players.

Netball Victoria will start the recruitment process in the coming weeks. The interesting part is that McKinnis did not use the word pension and says that her love for coaching space is still strong.

“It’s 13 years ago and it’s just the time for me to continue,” said McKinnis.

“To be honest, I am not someone for announcements, I would like to have kept it in my own home, but Netball Victoria wanted to continue recruitment.

“Don’t know [where I’ll end up next]It is not even something I have thought of … My job is now to find a way to make it as good as possible for the rest of the season, then I walk away and go on vacation and the highway will not drive from Geelong to Melbourne every day.

“We look a bit flat and lifeless, maybe we just have to go to the pub.”

It was nice to see the humorous side of McKinnis, indicating that a weight of her shoulders had come.

So who will replace her? A Super Netball head coach must at least have their elite accreditation and work on a powerful accreditation.

The names of different assistant coaches have been raised. Dylan Nexhip (Swifts) has recently reached Elite, while Cathy Fellows (Thunderbirds) and Nicole Richardson (Mavericks) are supposed to both have their high performance.

It is difficult to know who else could be in the race, because the sport can be laid tightly about these accreditations, but one thing we know about Netball Victoria is that they like to recruit their own.

Gretel Bueta with Baby Bobby Quad series

In 2024, Gretel Bueta said she was concentrated on her family. Now it seems that she has become a change in the mentality when trying to regain her condition after the birth of her third child, daughter Lacy.

Netball fans were very enthusiastic when the former Diamonds star posted a video on her Instagram account that exercised her shooting next to the Australian head coach Stacey Marinkovich.

It was quickly confirmed that this was a clinic Bueta at the latest and Marinkovich ran for competition winners. False alarm, we thought.

Until Marinkovich appeared on Fox Netball and fuel added to the fire.

“Gretel is four months after the baby and she uses netball as a tool to get fit, she is not retired, so just looks where her body is and you never know what can happen,” said Marinkovich.

“It’s step by step, she works well in the background, we will see where it brings us.”

Bueta is currently not linked to a Super Netball or Queensland State Team, but Firebird’s goal attack Tippah Dwan ruled out of selection last week while rehabilitating a knee injury.

Bueta won two prime ministers with the team (2015 and 2016) and reached the headlines in 2021 when she returned to the highest level four months after having her first child, son Bobby. She last played in 2022 before she had her second child, Toby.

In 2023 she worked as an assistant coach before taking a break from the competition. Last year Bueta said she kept her distance because she was told that she was a distraction.

Diamond contracts are announced by the end of the season, which will work in favor of Bueta.

“We don’t have to do what we have done before, because there is no selection framework, so we will push it back to enable players to show what they can do,” said Marinkovich.

If Bueta is fit and ready, the national team would certainly want her in the area, while building the 2026 Commonwealth games in Glasgow and a World Cup in 2027 at home. Especially with the shape of Sophie Dwyer and Sophie Garbin a bit shaky.

Import broke nose before he came to Thunderbirds

Adelaide Thunderbirds General Manager of High Performance Jace Bode spilled the tea in the signing of the club of the South African Import Sanmarie Visser.

On Netball unlocked, Bode spoke about the sleepless nights he had tried to find a replacement for pregnant goalkeeper Shama Sterling-Humphrey.

Super Netball teams were completed in August and the double defending prime ministers did not expect that they would try to claim a three-level without their selection frame player.

Bode said that his instinct was to protect Sterling-Humphrey, even if it meant it would tell a white lie for the true reason to hide Visser seen during the pre-season team Girls Cup.

“When Shama told us at the beginning of February … Given everything that took place with Fowler-Membhard [miscarriage]It was a sensitive subject, “said Bode.

“It didn’t give us many options for replacements and we are not blessed with much height in our South Australia paths, so we looked internationally.

“Rommela Aiken-George had a knee cleaning, there was a chance to bring in Sanmarie as her replacement and we did not announce that Sjamera was pregnant, but we said it would probably be a chance.

“We tried to be the front if we could be and asked:” Can you take that leap of faith? Knowing that there might be nothing at the end? “

“She took that risk.”

Bode also confirmed rumors that Visser had a facial plantation before he came to the Thunderbirds. ABC Sport was originally told that Visser broke a bone around her eye cooker during her international debut in the Nations Cup. Bode said it was a broken nose.

Visser was seen in April in April during the training, the club has now revealed that she has undergone an operation prior to her arrival in South Australia.

“Sanmarie came with a broken nose and we did not see her in a competitive environment while Romelda was injured … It enabled us to accelerate her development.”

The 21-year-old plays about the target schedule, goalkeeping and wing defense, has a bright future and has offered a lot of versatility in its three supernetball appearances.
