According to ESPN’s Emily Kaplansome news regarding the 2026 Olympic rosters for both Team Canada and Team USA will surface Tuesday evening, while the respective squads will call players Wednesday morning and then unveil their selections in the early afternoon.
Kaplan writes: “With the Olympic rosters set tomorrow, USA Hockey & Team Canada will be calling players tomorrow morning. Expect a similar American roster to Four Nations; hear minor adjustments. Macklin Celebrini made it to Canada, then we’ll see how Connor Bedard was simply left out during the entire process.”
Elliotte Friedman also reported earlier on Tuesday that he is under the impression that Team Canada will bring back the same eight defensemen from 4 Nations. That means Cale Makar, Devon Toews, Joshn Morrissey, Seah Theodore, Colton Parayko, Travis Sanheim, Drew Doughty and Thomas Harley are participating. It also means Edmonton Oilers offensive dynamo Evan Bouchard is out, as is New York Islanders rookie sensation Matthew Schaefer.
Friedman also has a few forwards on his list of those who made the team. He sees Sam Bennett, Macklin Celebrini, Mark Stone and Tom Wilson as locks for Team Canada.
There is a theme that emerges from these selections. The groups that went to 4 Nations will be given priority over those that didn’t, even though there are some names that may be more deserving. Many wondered if the 4 Nations was a tryout for the Olympics, and that appears to be the case. For Team Canada, it appears they are largely sticking with the same group that won the gold medal there.
Team USA will make even fewer changes to that roster.
