Charles Farris: A Legacy of British Candlecraft
Charles Farris’s story goes back to 1845, when it started making candles for London’s leading churches. The company was granted a Royal Warrant from His Majesty King George V in 1935, followed by warrants from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1955 and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in 1984. Today, with a commitment to sustainability and time-honored British candlemaking at the Wiltshire-based factory, Charles Farris continues to supply candles to Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral, and holds a Royal Warrant from His Majesty King Charles III.
Charles Farris has also become known worldwide for its elegant, multi-coloured dinner candles and its range of luxury scented candles and reed diffusers, the result of carefully guarded fragrance recipes blended for them by some of the world’s best perfumers.
Likewise, Kensington and Chelsea (which gained Royal Borough status in 1901, following the death of Queen Victoria, who was born at Kensington Palace) have long been synonymous with luxury, success, innovation and quality. 100Kensington builds on this tradition, set on a 1.7 hectare site that was originally part of the hunting grounds of the Kensington estate of Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell and his son Richard, and which was part of Prince Albert’s ‘Albertopolis’ plan for a Victorian science park in the 1850s.
