Sergio Ramos has quickly established itself as the leader of CF Monterrey since his arrival in February 2025, after an illustrious career in Europe. Now that his contract is about to expire, the Spanish defender has broken his silence on his future Mexico.

After a two-year spell at Paris Saint-Germain, Ramos returned to Seville, where his professional career began. However, ahead of the 2024-2025 season, his contract was not renewed, leading to a surprise move: leaves Europe to join Liga MX Monterrey on a one-year agreement that runs until December 2025.

Speaking with the Spanish program The ChiringuitoRamos reflected on his time so far in Monterrey with the Apertura in full swing: “I’m doing very well, I can’t complain. Mexico is a country that treats me great, and Rayados is a club with a very interesting project. Hopefully things will go well for us this year.”

The veteran defender was then asked about his contract situation, which expires in less than three months, and made his intentions clear. “Yes, it is true that my contract expires in December, but hopefully we can stay here because we are very happy and comfortable”, Ramos stated candidly.

After working to regain fitness in the early stages of 2025, Ramos quickly became a key figure for the team, leading Monterrey to the FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16 after a strong performance in the group stage. What’s next for Monterrey?

Now that the 2025 Apertura is on its way, Monterrey have become one of the top teams in Liga MX and are currently fourth with 27 points from 13 games. Safe in play-off position, Rayados will look to win their first league title since 2019 – this time with Ramos in the lead.
