Serena Williams appeared at Super Bowl on Sunday – in a 30-second ad for Ro’s GLP-1 weight loss drug. Williams advocated for Ro, saying she recently lost 34 pounds.
“Thirty-four pounds less than GLP’s 1, (I’m) healthier on Ro,” the 44-year-old said on the spot. “Weight loss expertise I trust. I move better on Ro; I feel better on Ro. I’m Serena Williams. This is me on Ro.”
Behind the screen we may see Serena on the tennis court again.
Last fall, it was revealed that Williams’ name was on the list of players registered in the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s testing pool. To qualify for official WTA and ITF competitions, professional tennis players must be tested for performance-enhancing drugs and any other substances banned by the International Tennis Federation. Retired players obviously have no reason to be on that list.
On Monday, the ITIA website updated its list of reinstatements, indicating that Serena will have completed her six-month re-entry into the anti-doping testing pool on February 22.
