A highly anticipated Battle of the Sexes encounter between the top-ranked WTA player and the 2022 Wimbledon finalist took place on Sunday.
Sabalenka dropped a pair of service games early but managed to take the break twice and keep the first set at three games apiece before Kyrgios claimed back-to-back breaks to take the opener. In the second set, the Belarusian led 3-1 early before dropping the next five games as the Australian recorded a 6-3 6-3 win.
The match was not played in standard format. Sabalenka’s court size was reduced by 9 percent and the second serve was removed.
Stubbs, who won six Grand Slam doubles during her career and assisted Williams during the American’s retirement, did not watch the match but caught some on social media.
Stubbs: It was a money grab for both the players and their management group
“Let’s just say it was, okay. It was a money grab for both the players and their management group. Entertaining? You decide. Important? No. No top female player can compete with a good male player, that’s NOT PHYSICAL POSSIBLE! But $$$ came in! So I hope it was worth it,” the former six-time Grand Slam doubles champion wrote on X.
Let’s just say it was, shall we. It was a cash grab for both the players and their management group. Entertaining? You decide. Important? No. No top female player can compete with a good male player, that is PHYSICALLY NOT POSSIBLE! But $$$ got gotten! So I hope it was worth it.

In a follow-up post, Stubbs added more.
1 point not seen #BUNCH But judging by my 5 minutes on social media, the crap people write about it is the reason it was a 🙄 event. Misogynists are out in force, people going after the trans community in women’s sports (look at Renee Richards) and for what? $$$$

Sabalenka and Kyrgios are both managed by sports agency EVOLVE.
