A week ago, the WTA and Mercedes-Benz announced a ten-year partnership, with the German car manufacturer investing $50 million per year. Shortly after the news broke, the reigning French Open champion was confirmed as the brand’s newest ambassador.
“Power. Precision. Play without limits. We are proud to welcome world-class tennis player Coco Gauff to the Mercedes-Benz family as a new global brand ambassador,” Mercedes-Benz said in a statement.
Stubbs responds to the deal between Gauff and Mercedes-Benz
Caitlin Thompson, co-host of Stubbs’ tennis podcast, was thrilled with the deal.
“Huge hats off and congratulations to the WTA Tour because that is a huge event and Coco has been tapped to be the face of this. You couldn’t get a better brand ambassador, you probably couldn’t really get a better human being and obviously someone who really transcends the sport to be your brand ambassador,” Thompson said. Stubbs, who won four Grand Slams in women’s doubles and another two in mixed doubles, also responded delightfully.
“So Coco. I have a feeling a G-Wagon will pull into her driveway soon. Definitely,” said the Australian tennis legend.
Just before the Mercedes deal was announced, Gauff landed at the top of Sportico’s list of the highest-paid female athletes for 2025. According to Sportico, the 21-year-old earned $8 million in tournament prizes this year, and another $23 million through her sponsorship deals.
“With all my brands, I try to make sure it’s something that I do and use. I’ve had opportunities that I turned down because I just knew it wasn’t authentic to me,” Gauff said.
