September 27, 2025 – Has Veldhockey hit a red zone?

One of the things that this site has done from time to time is to broadcast my responses to what happens during certain streamed or television hockey and Lacrosse games. It is something we call the last third.

The Whiparound coverage of various sporting properties has been around for about one and a half decade, since the first iteration of NFL Redzone, a seven-hour Tackle Football Smorgas board without having to go to a sports bar.

Since Red Zone went into the air in 2009, the Whiparound show has been tried in many different sports through many different networks. Major League Baseball has MLB Strike Zone and the MLB network has the large inning. The NBA has a crunch time during the regular season.

Football has had a number of Whiparound shows, including a produced by the English Premier League, and during the UEFA Champions League of Europa League seasons there is the Golazo show, organized by the son of the legendary football announcer Andres Cantor.

This fall, the Dutch big league, the first division of men’s and women’s field hockey, have a Whiparound show called The Switch. It is available Here on the Tulp big league YouTube Presence.

There are men’s and women’s competitions on the Whiparound shows, which show action of every available game. Indeed, during the MatchDay 3 of Ladies, the service took into account the fact that the Amsterdam Bandy & Hockey Club vs. SV Kampong started about fifteen minutes late because one of the spotlights did not function in the home country of Amsterdam. The temporary employment team made a note, went on and started with seven games and concluded when the Amsterdam-Kampong match went full-time.

This is the thing: you don’t necessarily have to know Dutch to understand what is going on when you know what’s going on. Conditions such as “goal” or “corner” are the same, and you can pick up the names of some players, especially that you may know from international competitions.

I encourage you to tune into the live stream for the next competition day of the big league, which will be tomorrow. The women play all their matches at 6.45 am Eastern Time, with all men’s games at 9 am

As nothing else, free visual training is for how some of the best club sides in the world play. I strongly recommend the switch.
