Second set of FPL chips available – when should you use them?

As most of you know, the second set of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) chips are now available.

Everyone now has a Wildcard, Free Hit, Triple Captain and Bench Boost to use between game weeks 20-38.

All unused copies from the first half of the season will now be lost.

WILL WE GET EMPTY/DOUBLE GAME WEEKS?

Unlike the first half of the season, we are almost guaranteed Blank/Double Game weeks between now and May.

Many FPL managers save their chips for these occasions as they try to maximize points totals.

Game weeks 31 and 34 clash with the EFL Cup final and FA Cup semi-final respectively. That will almost certainly be the case blanks. You can read more about Blank Gameweek 31 here.

EARLY THOUGHTS ON USING THE CHIPS

The chip strategy will paint a moving picture in the coming months, but only at first glance Bank reinforcement And Triple captain for Game weeks 33/36 could be the play.

However, we could have smaller Doubles weeks like we did last season.

A Free hit could be used to traverse the biggest Blank Gameweek (which could be Game week 34)

Alternatively, the chip could be used more aggressively in a Double Game Week. This allows you to select 11 players who will play twice.

The Wild card is less dependent on Gameweek and is best saved for when your team needs the most maintenance (i.e. players who are injured, out of shape or have dropped out).

However, it can also be used in combination with another chip strategy. For example, a Wildcard can be used to set a Bench Boost (i.e. ensuring you have 15 starters) or played immediately afterwards (bringing the money from your bank to the starting XI).

It’s still very early and we’re still a long way from Blank/Double Gameweeks being announced, let alone played. We will of course keep you informed when these are finally scheduled.

But while the temptation is to immediately let go of your shiny new chips, it’s worth keeping the above information in mind.
