Sean Strickland thinks Alex Pereira is the second coming of Chuck Liddell.
UFC 320 saw ‘Poatan’ reclaim the 205-pound crown, scoring an incredible 80-second knockout against Magomed Ankalaev in the evening’s headliner.
Strickland, who knows a thing or two about the power Pereira possesses, compared ‘Poatan’ to another UFC light heavyweight legend during an interview with Nice junkie.
“That man packs a killer punch, dude,” Strickland said. “So, fuck a guy. Like Ankalaev dude, he came and trained with us, so he’s so damn good, dude. But like Alex, he’s got that once-in-a-lifetime thing. Like Chuck Liddell had it. There’s some guys who just have that death knell. That’s Alex. And I’ll give you an example.”
“So I’m sparring with Alex in Connecticut and we’re having a fucking war, dude,” Strickland continued. “We’re doing three tough rounds and I’ve somehow managed not to get hit by any big shots, and I’m actually walking away – like I’m dead tired. I’m walking away really well, and they bring in a pretty high level wrestler, and this guy is just crushing Alex in round four. Mind you, this guy is new.”
“Me and Alex just had a fucking three-round war, and this guy is mauling Alex, throwing overhands, keeping him in his cage, and about halfway through the round Alex just hits him with an uppercut, and the round’s over. And then Alex is just like… I mean, he could have fucking blown him over and knocked him over, and just like that kind of power. It’s just… I mean, you gotta be like what a six-footer. meter tall fucking Brazilian, I think.’
What’s next for Pereira remains to be seen, but it appears there is a chance to become the UFC’s first-ever three-division champion.
