That Friday before Christmas, Jake Paul’s opponent in a professional heavyweight fight will be Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) of Miami’s Kaseya Center. The rules for this fight include the fact that the fighters will wear 10oz gloves and the stipulation that Anthony Joshua cannot weigh more than 245 pounds on the morning of the official weigh-in.
While Jake Paul will wear his regular 10-oz gloves at the home site of the NBA’s Miami Heat six days before the Christmas holiday, that’s the least of Sean O’Malley’s worries as the fight draws closer. Anthony Joshua is no slouch in the boxing ring. He has already won the heavyweight championship twice.

Sean O’Malley takes to YouTube to express concerns about Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua
Ahead of the December 19 main event in South Florida, Sean O’Malley used the most recent episode of his YouTube series, The Bro Malley Show, to talk about the upcoming eight-round boxing fight between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua.
“This fight, as Jake’s friend, is… I’m scared,” Sean O’Malley began. “Dude, getting knocked out by someone like that changes things lives. It doesn’t just change your career path. It’s not like, ‘Ah, maybe I don’t box.’ It can change lives. You have one (expletive deleted) brain and he’s willing to go out there and fight [Anthony Joshua.] That’s absolutely insane.”
Before Jake Paul accepted the fight against Anthony Joshua on November 17, he reportedly fought in an exhibition against Gervonta Davis. However, November 3 was the Davis exhibition canceled by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions. Gervonta Davis was named in a civil suit filed by his now ex-girlfriend, which brought forward allegations of false imprisonment and simple and aggravated assault.
Sean O’Malley Gives Hope for Jake Paul Fight
On that same show, Sean O’Malley said he was hopeful of one outcome over the other, with the fight going to the judges’ scorecards.
“When Jake makes a decision and loses a decision [Joshua,] I think that’s a win,” he said. “That’s a huge win. If he plays eight three-minute rounds with Anthony Joshua, that’s a win.”
Sean O’Malley also referenced Anthony Joshua’s 2024 fight against Francis Ngannou. That night, in the second round of an advertised 10 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Ngannou absorbed a vicious right-handed punch from Joshua, sending him to the canvas in a scary moment before regaining consciousness for several moments.
“Francis fights Anthony Joshua, Anthony Joshua knocks him out cold in two rounds,” O’Malley said.
Height difference between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua Not Lost on Sean O’Malley
In terms of height, Jake Paul’s 6-foot-4 frame is two inches shorter than his December 19 opponent, compared to Anthony Joshua’s 6-foot-4 frame, something O’Malley would certainly take note of ahead of the expected Netflix clash in a few short weeks.
“Did you see how big that guy is?” Sean O’Malley asked. “Six feet tall, 265.” Once this fight starts, Jake Paul won’t give up his height advantage. Anthony Joshua also beats him in the reach category.
Numerically speaking, Joshua has a reach of 82 inches, compared to a reach of 76 inches for Jake Paul. It will be interesting to see whether or not these numbers come into play when the bell rings on the Friday evening before Christmas.
Final thoughts
Sean O’Malley’s concerns for his colleague ahead of the December 19 superfight in Miami are justified. This will be only Jake Paul’s 15th professional fight, compared to Anthony Joshua’s 33rd.
While some may say that Anthony Joshua is past his prime in The Sweet Science, the fact that Joshua is a former heavyweight champion in boxing cannot be easily dismissed. Jake Paul and his camp must treat Joshua with the same seriousness as his previous opponents in professional boxing.
Whether Sean O’Malley’s concerns about Jake Paul will come to fruition remains to be seen. Love him or hate him, Jake Paul’s next fight will consist of eight entertaining rounds or less action.
