A new thriller series from writer Thomas Duncan-Watt is finding success with Screen NSW development.

Screen NSW has given development funding to a new thriller series, The Night Walker by writer Thomas Duncan-Watt (Home and away, Space Nova).

Now in active development with Thumper Pictures, the project is billed as a “fish-out-of-water thriller” that follows “54-year-old Laurie Pearce who, desperate to save her cash-strapped women’s shelter, starts a ‘Night Moving’ company – a risky, not-quite-legal service (inspired by the Japanese profession of the same name) that lets people disappear off the grid in exchange for cold hard cash.”

The pilot was originally developed by Duncan-Watt (pictured center) during his time at ‘The Creators’, a Screen Australia and Australian Writers’ with one-on-one guidance in LA from showrunner Jeff Melvoin (Killing Eva, aka).

Thumper’s head of development, Charlie Garber, says: “When Thomas introduced us The Night Walker At Content London we immediately saw its potential: a gripping crime-related procedural that can delve into the challenging, often hidden areas of Australian life. These are the stories of hope and despair that play out on every street (no matter how green), that we need to see reflected on our screens. Thomas is a powerhouse and we are so excited to be on this journey with him and the formidable team of writers we have assembled.

Based in Annandale, Thumper Pictures is a boutique television and film production company championing diverse Australian voices and concepts.

In addition to Duncan-Watt, the development team includes Morgan Hind (The Dog), Alexa Wyatt (McLeod’s Daughters, Last King of the Cross)Jess Heuvel (See what you made me do), and Dee Dogan (Here in the West).

Duncan-Watt is represented in Australia by Sharne McGee at Liberty Artist Management.
