Scottie Scheffler’s search for his 18th PGA Tour title was a slight hik on Saturday evening, because Scheffler’s regular Caddy, Ted Scott, had to leave the tournament for an emergency.
The news was Reported for the first time by Todd Lewis van Golf Channel.
In a golf canal update from the TPC Southwind site, Lewis said that Scott Memphis left after the end of the third round on Saturday to fly home to Louisiana. Lewis also reported that two other Tourcaddies with Early Tee-Times on Sunday approached the Scheffler coach, Randy Smith, to offer their services to Scheffler, who has the penultimate Tee time alongside JJ Spaun. Scheffler is currently two strokes behind leader Tommy Fleetwood, who plays in the last combination of the tournament with Justin Rose.
According to Lewis, Scheffler called Brad Payne, the PGA Tour Chaplain and an old friend instead. Lewis described Payne as a life coach and spiritual guide to the Scheffler family. Payne drove from Dallas to Memphis on Saturday to be ready for Scheffler’s Sunday round.
This is not the first time Payne has arrived for Ted Scott. During last year’s PGA championship, Payne wore the bag for Scheffler during the third round, while Scott was attending high school attacking.
