Scottie Scheffler, during the third round of last week’s Tour Championship, Bogey the 2nd hole – then the 3rd bird.
A day later he bogged the 5th hole – then the 6th.
And nine holes later, he has the 15th hole double-grown-for the 16 Vogeld.
Plus scores – immediately followed by min -scores. Frowds – immediately turned upside down. Of course Scheffler would do this, because this year he is the world no. 1 and the winner of five tournaments, including a few large championships.
But he also “bounces back” this year with a rate that only one other player has improved in the past 38 years on the PGA Tour – Tiger Woods in 2000, which is generally considered one of the best campaigns ever in professional wave.
What is “going back?” As defined By the Tour websiteIt is when a player follows an over-par score on a hole with an under-par score on the next hole. In other words, it is fire extinguish. Or don’t let things be snowed. It is what every golfer would like.
And it is what Scheffler has said he is proud of it. Interestingly enough, he said on the Tour Championship that it was something he noticed did Woods while he played with him during the last round of the 2020 masters. There Woods bought a 10 on the par-3 12th hole playing when his last six holes on five par.
“And it was like, what is this man still playing for?” Said Scheffler. āHe has won the Masters four or five times. The best finish he will have is currently as the 20th place.
“I just admired the intensity that he brought to every round, and that is something that I try to pursue. If I am going to take the time to come out here every week – as if it is not easy to play a golf tournament. If I took a week off, I am not so good with it.

Five years after that master round – and as noted for the first time By Golf Statistics Guru Justin Ray – Scheffler “bounces back” 36.50 percent of the time this year. How good is that? If he no longer plays events this year, it would be the second best percentage since 1987, which is as far back when the online record retention of the Tour goes. First Woods is 36.51 percent in 2000, which is simply fractionally better. The Scheffler margin in particular compared to the second best song this year (30.19, by Harry Hall) is the widest margin in the 38 -year period.
There is also this:
The statistics run through the end of the year so that things can change. And Scheffler said that he is planning to play the ProCore championship next month in preparation for the Ryder Cup.
Below is a look at the leaders of the Tour since 1987.
