“You want to get the extra point, especially within the division, but we haven’t done that, and we keep moving forward,” Laughton said. “I thought we played a better game than (against) Minnesota, we were tighter, our D grinded. When you go to five D that early, it’s a grind, and they played really well for us.”
Laughton scored Toronto’s lone goal against the Red Wings on Wednesday, burying a puck sparked by Calle Järnkrok to give the Leafs an early lead.

Laughton earned his seventh goal of the year and talked about how he saw it happen.
“He fanned out, tried to get a rebound, and I was lucky the ball bounced off a stick and I had a wide open net,” he said.
Late in the third, Laughton nearly added a second. While in shorthand, the 31-year-old got hooked on a breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot. Unfortunately, he couldn’t convert and mishandled the puck.
Oooof Laughton loses the puck on the penalty shot 😬
“I was too tired, I should have faked a broken stick and let Matthews go or something,” he joked. “I’ve done that move before, I just lost the puck. That’s about it. I could probably shoot it there, it’s easy to say when I look at it again, slow it down, do all that, but that’s out of the question. Tomorrow the sun will come up and we’ll go at it again.”
“I’m sure it’ll be…loud,” Laughton said.
