Scott Boland shares the heaviest batsman he has bowled against and his most memorable Test wicket
Melbourne-born Seamer Boland was instrumental in Australia’s return to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, producing match-defining spells and finishing among the leading wicket-takers despite playing in just three Tests. His ability to exploit the home conditions and apply ruthless pressure made him one of India’s toughest opponents during the series. It was only later that Boland revealed that the batsman who caused him the most trouble was India’s Rishabh pants. The Australian explained that Pant’s unpredictability sets him apart from most top-level batsmen, making it extremely difficult for bowlers to get into a rhythm.
Pant faced Boland for the first time during India’s tour of Australia in late 2024. Although Boland dismissed the wicketkeeper-batsman twice, each match was a constant battle of adjustments. Despite his limited appearances, Boland finished the series as the third highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets at an excellent average of 13.19, underscoring his impact. During a recent rapid-fire segment hosted by Grassroot Cricket Round, Boland was asked by a female junior cricketer to name the heaviest batsman he has ever bowled against. The 36-year-old didn’t hesitate in his response, explaining what made the Indian stand out:
“Rishabh Pant from India. He is someone who is very unpredictable. Sometimes he slogs for six, and then you bowl the same ball again and he just blocks it. So it is very difficult to bowl against him.” Boland said.
In the same interaction, Boland also revealed that his favorite Test wicket was that of Virat Kohliwhich he dismissed in the second innings of the Sydney Test.
