Scotland women lost 3-0 to England in their first match of the Eurohockey championship in Monchengladbach, Germany.

On a sunny day in Germany, Fiona Burnet earned her 100one Combined cap when Scotland started against England.

England enjoyed the majority of the ball, but Scotland had good attacks in a fast opening quarter.

With a few minutes of the fifteen minutes left, England cut through the Scots and Fiona Crackles lipped the ball low past Jess Buchanan for 1-0.

Tess Howard opened Scotland on the left with a power run and waved a pass to the distant pole for Lily Walker to dive into it and bring the score to 2-0.

Heather McEwan almost pulled one back for Scotland with a bend and shot it just wide from the left post.

Scotland had a strong third quarter and created some opportunities. Sarah Jamieson had a sensational opportunity to withdraw once in the second half for Scotland when she went through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but she could not bypass the keeper.

Moments later and another big chance for Scotland saw the ball clean up the line by Anna Toman.

In the last quarter, Buchanan produced a succession of rescues to keep England out while they went looking for a third.

It went to 3-0 with a nice fine corner by Lily Owsley in the top right corner.

Scotland will play Spain tomorrow at 11:15 am in their second polar game of the tournament.
