Scotland: Scotland -women beat Ireland at the Eurohockey championship

Scotland women won their first match of the Eurohockey championship in Monchengladbach, Germany, with a 3-2 victory over Ireland.

The opening quarter was very much with both parties who tested the waters in the heat of Monchengladbach, but the longer the game went through the positivity of the Scots they saw. However, there would be no goals.

After the break, Ireland finally broke the impasse. An error in the circle led to a penalty stroke and Roisin Upton found the top left corner 1-0.

Scotland enjoyed a lot of possession and pushed back Ireland, in the end the pressure paid off.

Another penalty stroke was awarded and this time it went to Scotland. Charlotte Watson stepped up and found the left corner to bring it 1-1.

Ireland recaptured the management shortly after Scotland’s strike. Kathryn Mullen found a defense pass from Upton who hit the ball for 2-1 in the left corner.

The goals kept coming and this time it was Scotland that the net found via a delicious Amy Costello -Penaltyhoek in the right corner. 2-2.

Heather McEwan then placed Scotland in the front when a rebound of the goalkeeper’s pole bounced and to the path of McEwan who kept 3-2 home.

Ireland went on the hunt for a late equalizer, but Scotland managed the game well and took the victory.

Player of the game evening Pearson said: “We are very happy, we worked hard and thought we could win from the start. We deserved it. Ireland is brilliant, they have improved ourselves in the past, so we are delighted to win.

“It was a professional performance, we were clinical today that we were missing in other games, so it’s great to win the victory.”
