Scotland 1-1 Canada

A dominant performance by Scotland against Canada ended in a draw at the World Junior Women’s World Cup in Santiago, Chile.

The Scots played with excellent energy and pressure, with Maclean causing all kinds of problems with pace and direct attack.

A goal would come soon enough and Mhairi Low scored Scotland’s first goal of the Junior Women’s World Cup with a great run from the right that finished into the top right corner. 1-0

Scotland continued to dominate the match, but it was after half-time where they were met by a sucker punch. Canada equalized early in the third quarter after a strike down the left was converted by Zoe Furber

The dominance of ball possession increased in the final quarter. Ava Wadsworth was denied early in the quarter after entering the Canadian circle and hitting on goal, but the ball was well saved under the crossbar.

Yang made a series of excellent saves in goal for Canada, the most critical coming in the final minute when Cat Nelli had a one-on-one with the keeper, who forced the striker wide and blocked.

Ultimately, the points were shared and Scotland is in third place in the group based on goal difference.

Captain Connie Roxburgh said: “Canada made it tough, but we are proud of the performance. We built on the first game and need to work on being more clinical, but we have so much positive play to take into the rest of the tournament. We are frustrated not to have won, but there is a lot to build on.”
