Member – Update of CEO – August 2025
1. Summer update
This summer has been a brilliant celebration of everything that makes our sport so special – of unforgettable moments on the field at every level, with aspiring juniors, rising talent, senior squadrons and masters who all present their passion and performance. Highlights were again connected to the rich history of the Scottish hockey at the Scotland match against France, in addition to strengthening vital cooperation with our clubs and important stakeholders. Looking ahead, our board has set a clear direction: we must develop a strategy that is built on meaningful involvement and cooperation, supported by transparency, communication and accountability. Our intention since I started in the post has been to work together to strengthen our sport and to create better ways of working for the future. We still have some challenges that we inevitably have to go through and below, I have given a short summary in which some of the amazing performance that took place in the summer with a number of important updates to build on that direction, to work open and transparent with our most important stakeholders to shape the future of our sport.

Together our board helped in setting the travel direction when we come into contact with members and prioritize this collaboration. Further details about our work are given below. Meet our plate
2. New kit partner at Scottish Hockey
After a competitive process with contributions from our board, staff and Masters Hockey, we are delighted to have identified the Osaka brand as our new kit partner with specialized sports that lead their distribution in the UK. Working with such a lively hockey brand offers many opportunities, some of which have already been realized.
3. Policy updates in Scottish hockey
Improved board at Scottish Hockey was a focus area in 2025 for Hockey Scottish to build a more consistent approach to our work and services, both for our employees and for our employees. Scottish Hockey has now updated our employee manual that refers to a number of important policy measures and guidance for staff and is working on anti -intimidation and respect policy, updated equality diversity and inclusion policy and an updated security policy.
Assessing our policy is the key to determining consistent ways of works that are honest, including and legally in accordance with. The People Committee has supported these efforts and further updates are provided prior to the new season. An update about our transgender participation policy, after the clarification of the Supreme Court earlier this year, was due this week; However, this is delayed due to factors outside our check. We will share the guidance as soon as possible before the start of the season.

5. Organizational progress
- Staff” Structure and strategy – Since I started in the post at Scottish Hockey, I have invested a lot of efforts to ensureORK to involve stakeholders in the development of a long -term strategy that will be supported by a financial plan and a personnel structure that meets the needs of our sport and some of the challenges that we are aware of communication -challenges. This takes a while to implement and our plan is to take a careful and considered approach to our personnel structure when we have clarity about our long -term strategic priorities. As a result, we can be manned for a short time in the meantime because of a few vacancies. Rest assured where we are clear in the next steps, we work to strengthen the leadership capacity and to better support staff and our members.
- Financial position – Through careful cost management, our financial prospects have improved compared to last year, but the margins involved in running a company are still tight to get where we want to be. Although we are still working on full stability, and there remain some historical obligations that are a challenge, we are encouraged by the progress that is being made and we remain focused on doing everything we can to achieve a balanced budget for 2025.
- Club and membership -The CEO, the staff and the council go to district sessions in Scotland to listen, to build trust and understanding and collect input from important stakeholders in the long -term strategy of the sport.
- Security and governance – Strengthening security remains a top priority, with constant improvements in processes, policy and resources. Contact our engagement manager if you need support.
- Commercial partnerships – A new partnership is secured with connecting Scottish hockey with one of the most exciting hockey brands. In addition, we have protected contractual savings, which means that sustainability and where your money in a few important areas of the company are strengthened.
- Membership – Costs remain unchanged for the 2025/26 season. Communication has been shared with all members to activate the membership of the year that is now open for season 2025/26.
6. Looking ahead
- All district control sessions will be completed by September, so that a concept of long -term strategy will be informed by December 2025.
- By the end of the year we expect to have clarity about our strategic direction, budget and a sustainable personnel structure to strengthen delivery in 2026.
While the Scottish hockey continues to evolve during this period, there have been some recent staff changes. Sam Macfarlane continues with a part -time role in competitions. We have a number of extra staff changes on the horizon that I will update in due course. We thank Sam for her contributions to hockey in Scotland and wish her every success for the future.
