Scotland: beautiful scores in Premiership on the opening day

Fraser Moran van Western Wildcats started the season in a certain style he took a hat trick in the opening quarter in an 8-1 mauling from Uddingston on Auchenhowie, he shot in two penalty corners and one of the place although Jedd Campbell did for Uddy, also from a penalty.

The score went on to 4-1 with the interval with a short distance from Adam Mackenzie.

The goals continued to flow in the second half, Mackenzie scored again when he hit a rebound home, Rob Harwood added a sixth up close, followed by Andrew Mcallister. Perhaps the best was left until the last minute with a spectacular diving deflection from Harwood to complete the event.

So a strong early achievement of the defensive men’s champions – ominous news for the other title pirants.

Perhaps just as ominous was Watsonians 7-1 victory over Grove Menzieshill on Taysside. Here new signing sessions Adam Carter and Charlie Jack had an immediate impact with two goals each, the others came from Guy Rowson, Matthew Leiper and Danny Cain. Brian McGarrity sent a deflection high in the net before the answer of Dundonians.

And what a start for the new coach Sam Judge from Watsonians – this was her baptism who was in charge, perhaps a sign of the coming things!

Other likely title candidates Grange were also winners on the day – but only. The match at Titwood was the traditional game of two halves. Clydesdale galloped in a lead of two goals during the interval by Thomas Mcinroy and Liam King. But Grange stepped up in the second half and pulled the level with a penalty corner attack by Robbie Croll and another by Jacob Tweedie.

While the game seemed to go to a 2-2 draw, and with 20 seconds to go, there was a fraternal intervention. David Nairn, playing for Grange, was polluted in the circle by brother Jack and played for Clydesdale, David then stuck and converted from the place for the late winner.

Inverleith were also winners of the first day, they defeated Dundee Wanderers with the strange goal in Zeven – Scorers were Jordan Wright, Zak and Ben Turtle and Tyler Stagg. Inverleith Captain Kyle Taylor said: “Great to get the three points to start the season. Was a brilliant shift of the boys.”

Esm Lions went to Hillhead and got away with the three points with a 3-1 score. Cameron Ede, Jamie Hogarth and Rich McCorkell were on goal for the victors while Euan Menzies answered for Hillhead.

In the game-of-the-day in the women’s competition, Clydesdale Western showed their stall for the season with an emphatic victory of five goals on GHK at Titwood. There were five individual scorers – Jenny Eadie, Heather Howie, Bronwyn Shields, New Signing Jika Nyienda and Ciara Forgie. That can give the other parties something to think about!

Wildcats were also decisive winners at Auchenhowie – they put in the past in the past. The fastest goal of the day, within 25 seconds younger Chloe Hardie had the ball in the net … and on her debut! Against the break, Lexi Macmillan had doubled the count. The second half was from Alex Stuart, she opened with a shoulder height degradation and followed with two deflection in penalty corners for her hat trick. Lexi Macmillan got the other after a successful 2V1 situation.

In the last meeting of the day, Grange went to Hillhead and got away with a 1-0 win, Heather Croll took the winner.
