School team champions crowned on Isle of Wight – Table Tennis England

The annual Isle of Wight Schools Tournament took place in mid-November, in which a number of enthusiastic children took part.

This was the case at the Primary Schools event Nieuwkerke School (pictured above) who won the event by 25 points, retaining the trophy they won last year.

Gatton and Lake School came second with 20 points and Summerfields School finished third with 18 points.

There were some exciting competitions and the children showed great determination to do well, encouraged by their teachers and some parents.

That was the case in the Under-16 match Carisbrooke College who won the boys trophy and the Bay School at Sandown who was victorious in the girls’ event.

We hope that some of the children will join the local Isle of Wight Table Tennis Association and continue to play and develop their game.

IoW coaching officer Elaine Mills said: “We were pleased to welcome the Island schools who took part and we were impressed with the overall standard of their play. We hope the children involved will continue to play and enjoy the sport.”
