SBS celebrates the Year of the Fire Horse with curated programming and community events.
SBSs Lunar New Year offering celebrates the Year of the Fire Horse.
Throughout February, SBS offers curated programming in 14 languages and 18 national partnerships.
The offering includes action, comedy, drama, documentaries and entertainment across SBS’s four broadcast channels – SBS, SBS VICELAND, SBS World Movies and SBS Food – in addition to a special Lunar New Year collection on SBS On Demand.
SBS acting director Jane Palfreyman said: “Lunar New Year is one of the world’s most important cultural celebrations, observed by communities across Australia and by more than two billion people worldwide.
“Our Lunar New Year programming reflects SBS’s purpose in action. By sharing the stories, traditions and contemporary experiences behind the celebration, SBS helps Australians better understand each other and the cultures that shape our shared lives.”
Through linear television and SBS On Demand, audiences can enjoy powerful dramas, classic films and sensational documentaries from across Asia, alongside local food-based stories that celebrate heritage, family and the joy of shared meals.
New premieres on SBS include Dominic West: Extreme Silk Road, which follows the actor on an epic journey along the historic Silk Road; Lost Cities of Genghis Khan, which reveals groundbreaking archaeological discoveries that challenge long-held beliefs about the Mongol Empire; The Lost Jungle Empire, which uncovers a sophisticated ancient civilization hidden beneath the rainforest canopy; and The Grand Canal: China and its Wondrous Waterways, which explores the history and impact of the world’s longest man-made waterway.
SBS World Movies ramps up the action with a Jet Li tribute, featuring martial arts classics such as Fist of Legend, Tai Chi Master and the Once Upon a Time in China trilogy, before entering modern Asian cinema in the late evening with standout films Above the Dust, House of the Seasons and The Accidental Getaway Driver.
At SBS Food, the Lunar New Year is celebrated through food, travel and connection. The Cook Up with Adam Liaw returns to primetime for a ninth season, with three special episodes where chefs and guests come together to share festive dishes and family traditions. Every weekday afternoon in February, discover regional flavors, everyday food cultures and the ingredients that have shaped communities across Asia.
SBS On Demand will feature a special Lunar New Year 2026 collection, with 182 titles spanning action, comedy, drama and documentary – all available to stream for free, anytime.
SBS will continue its strong community connections and work with 18 community and government partners to support Lunar New Year celebrations across the country. SBS’s online Lunar New Year Festival Guide helps Australians discover events across the country that they can participate in, including those supported by SBS.
