Today show star Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have demanded that anyone holding her mother, Nancy Guthrie, provide proof of life in a heartbreaking new video.
“We have also heard reports of a ransom note in the media. As a family we are doing everything we can. We are ready to talk,” said a visibly emotional Savannah in the video posted on Instagram on Wednesday evening. “However, we live in a world where voices and images can easily be manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her.”
Nancy disappeared from her home in the Catalina Foothills, just outside Tucson, Arizona, on Saturday evening. Local authorities believe she was kidnapped in her sleep.
Multiple news sources have reported receiving ransom notes for Nancy. TMZ and Arizona Station KGUN 9 reported that the notes demanded millions of dollars in Bitcoin for her safe return.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Tuesday that his office is “aware” of reports of “possible ransom notes” and “takes all tips and leads very seriously.”
Savannah was joined in the video by her sister Annie and brother Camron.
The Today The show’s co-host thanked everyone again for their prayers during this extremely difficult time and spoke highly of her mother.
“Our mother is a kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of goodness and light. She is funny, feisty and smart,” Savannah said.
Annie said, “The light is missing in our lives,” adding that the siblings are “just normal human people who need our mother.”
Savannah’s father, Charles, reportedly died of a heart attack when she was a teenager.
In her plea, Savannah mentioned her concerns about mother Nancy’s health.
“She is 84 years old. Her health and her heart are fragile. She lives in constant pain. She has no medication. She needs it to survive. She needs it not to suffer,” Savannah said.
The Today show star urged whoever was holding Nancy: “Please contact us.”
“We love you, mom. Stay strong,” Camron said.
Sheriff Nanos warned days ago that if Nancy doesn’t take her medication within 24 hours it “could be fatal.”
He said Nancy “is very limited in her mobility. We know she didn’t just walk out there.” But he added that she has “a great mind and common sense, this has nothing to do with dementia.”
