SUMMER SIDE, PE – The mid-card harness racing feature stole the show Tuesday night at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway as Sauble Attack (Gambler’s delight) blew up the toteboard.
At the $5,100 pace in race 8, Sauble Attack ($32.30) kept the pace high and then uncorked a closing panel of 27.4 to catch race pacesetter Doc Awesome (driven by David Dowling) in 1:55 after splits of 28, 57 and 1:26. The seven-year-old son of Bettors Delight delivered against boxcar odds for trainer Paul Biggar and co-owner Donald Callbeck, while Ken Murphy provided the winning trip. TH Boomtown (Gilles Barrieau) came second and Doc Awesome third.
SAUBLE ATTACK REPEAT
The late leg was another win for Murphy as he steered Rose Run X Con ($4.60) to a front-end score for trainer Nicholas Oakes, stopping the clock in 1:57.2. The McArdle gelding is owned by JD Racing Inc. from Cornwall and has rejected the bids of Howmac Maximus (Paul Langille) and Howmac Exclusive (Corey MacPherson).
The Oakes stable doubled that evening as Doctor Grenfell ($2.90) and driver Barrieau pocketed a 1:56.3 win for owner Milton Young of Paradise, NL.
Barrieau scored a driving triple populated by his own Twin B Betonit ($3.00) in a first score of 2:04.2, as well as Brokeandoutofgas ($2.50) in a spirited 1:55 for owner-trainer Tammy Collings.
Marleys Boy ($4.80) got the timing right in Race 7, spinning late to win in 1:58.1, allowing trainer Earl Watts to set up a Langille triple. Langille, a native of Nova Scotia, went on to win with 14-year-old veteran Well Did ($4.30) in Race 9, rising by a neck in 1:57.4, and then Good Omen ($2.10) in a runaway victory in Race 11, leaving in 1:56, both from his own Stable Pinette.
Live racing continues Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in Red Shores Charlottetown.
