Samson and his new franchise
Sanju Samson, the captain of RR since 2021 and their leading Run-Getter, has formally asked for an exchange or release, with reference to tensions with the franchise. A CSK officer confirmed interest in Samson as a potential MS Dhoni successor, but noted that no trade discussions have been demanded, where the team provides an auction offer when Samson becomes available.
Other franchises in the race
With CSK’s commercial interviews, other teams, including Kolkata Knight Riders, have shown interest in Samson. The negotiations of RR suggest that a deal with a different franchise can be nearby, reducing the chance that Samson will enter the IPL 2026 mini-oming. RR could, however, retain him because players have limited leverage outside of mega auctions.
CSK and their attitude
CSK’s restraint is in line with their reconstruction plans after 2015 after the last minute. Meetings involving Dhoni and Gaikwad focus on retaining core players such as Gaikwad, Jadeja and Young Talents while viewing auction goals such as Cameron Green.
