After starring in Gary and Josh Moore’s phenomenal weekend at Sandown, Salver could set his sights on Kempton’s Kauto Star Novices’ Chase.
The father-and-son team fired in four winners over the course of the two-day Tingle Creek meeting, with Salver’s 12-part Esher Novices’ Chase romp in his first attempt at the five-mile distance earning rave reviews.
Third to Majborough in the 2024 Triumph Hurdle, Salver – a half-brother of Willie Mullins’ top-class performer Saldier – could now return to the Grade One company on Boxing Day, with Josh Moore saying: “Hopefully he goes to Kempton and I’d like to think he’d enjoy it there.
“Hopefully the rain continues. Slow ground may not be the key for him, but it certainly brings out the best in him.
“I told the owner after he finished third in the Triumph Hurdle that he is a five-mile chaser, so it was always in the back of our minds that he would do well if he went up on the trip.
“He was a big, raw horse as a juvenile and we always hoped that things would work out in the end.”
Another star for the Lower Beeding team was Macktoad, who made an impressive British debut on the same afternoon as Salver.
He is also scheduled to make an appearance during the busy Christmas period, with the Moores eyeing the Chepstow Final Juvenile Hurdle on December 27 – a race they won alongside Salver himself in 2023.
“Maybe he’ll go to the final at Chepstow the day after Boxing Day,” Moore continued.
“We’ll probably know by the end of this week if that’s going to be too early, but we’ll have Chepstow in the back of our minds and that’s the original plan.
“He was very impressive at Sandown but we’ll see how he is next time.”
