Well traveled Ruin Saifa (Art Major) with only his second start in West -Australia surprised his more imagined rivals when he came with a well -timed run to remove the $ 50,000 Binshaw Pace in Gloucester Park on Friday evening.
Back in the field at the start of the start of the Driver Deni Roberts, Saifa was early in the back of the field.
Favorite Lincoln Lou, who pulled the pole, was expected to lead and gamblers had to be confidently felt when he seemed to have an easy run in front, although MR Fantastic Wide was put at a certain pace while he racet outside the leader.
The first serious challenge came from Soho Moonraker who made the three wide bell and on this point he was followed by Saifa.
Until the surprise of many Lincoln Lou did not show much fight under pressure and Soho Moonraker Voogde to the leadership when straightening. Saifa, however, kept leaving and in a driving finish he held to defeat the rapid finish I am Lightning Banner who looked bad luck with rank outsider Louis Dore who ran a fantastic race that came from the last to collect in third place.
Lincoln Lou Moe is tired to end up at the back. Saifa rated 1.55.5 for the journey of 2138 meters.
Saifa August 29 repeated
Now trained by Bob Mellsop for a syndicate of owners Saifa has had an interesting background of racing in many locations in his relatively short career. To date, he has appeared in every Australian state.
The New Zealand bred four years old only had one point in Cambridge as two years old before he stables at Adam Ruggaries at Sawyers Gully in Newcastle in New South Wales. He then joined the Jason Grimson team for a Stint in Albion Park for three points, including a fourth place in a heat from the Queensland Derby.
After which Saifa became part of the Victorian stables of Andy Gath, where he finished a good second in a heat of the South Australian derby before won in Melton in June.
Now in the stables of Bob Mellsop Saifa, it looks well established and ready to put his mark in the west and to put writing on the wall when he recorded a credible second a week ago during his Gloucester Park debut. The Binshaw is easily his most important success.
Deni Roberts indicated that Saifa has potential in the future.
“Last week he needed the run. I didn’t think he would take this bigger step tonight, but the speed was on and he didn’t pull tonight and he finished really well at home”.
“I think he definitely has a gate speed. It took every bit of me to get it back and that wasn’t a very fast front line and fast lead time”. “It will be exciting to see where he is going”.
Referring to Bob Mellsop Deni added “Bob has set me up as a junior, I’ve been driving for him for a few years”.
“We have formed a really good bond and hopefully we can get a little more winners”.
After the Event has disqualified Stewards Lincoln Lou for entering the market pins and he was rejected six days and one trial period.
