Sabers hold off Kraken in 3-1 win – The Hockey Writers Buffalo Sabers Latest news, analysis and more

On Sunday, December 14, the Seattle Kraken hosted the Buffalo Sabers for their first game of the season. The Sabers struck first and took the lead in the second period. Although the Kraken tried to even the score, the Sabers took one 3-1 win.

Summary of the game

Late in the first inning, Noah Ostlund and Josh Norris skated the puck into the Sabers zone. Norris gave Ostlund a pass and sent a rocket past Joey Daccord. Norris flew into the boards from the momentum of how fast he was skating, but did not appear to be injured. He finished the game logging a total of 15:46 on the ice.

The Sabers had another two-on-one opportunity midway through the second. Peyton Krebs picked up Alex Tuch’s loose pass and sent a light pass to Tage Thompson as the two stood in front of the net. He tapped the puck in to give the Sabers a two-goal lead.

Two minutes later, Rasmus Dahlin took his place for a cross-check from Matty Beniers. He won the first face-off and the puck went straight to Jordan Eberle. He passed it off to Vince Dunn at the blue line. He observed and saw Chandler Stephenson and passed it on to him. He shot a shot that went off the post and into the net.

As the Kraken pulled on Daccord to try and make a last-ditch effort at a comeback, Zach Benson scored an empty-net goal to ensure the Sabers won.

Next up

The Kraken return to action on Tuesday, December 16 when they host the Colorado Avalanche. The Sabers return home and have a few days of rest before hosting the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday, December 18.
