SA20 Auction: Glamorgan’s ASA Tribe Lands Maiden Franchise Gig

ASA Tribe’s impressive breakthrough campaign was rewarded with a first franchise deal when the 21-year-old was chosen by the Paarl Royals in the Betway SA20 On the same day he made a career-best 206 for Glamororgan in the County Championship.

Tribe was purchased by the franchise of Rajasthan Royals-Owner in the playground on Tuesday in Johannesburg for a price of R200,000 after an average of 34.66 with a strike rate of more than 150 in a commendable first T20 explosion campaign, and will follow from Jos Buttler and Joe Root in the Rootler.

His double century in the first innings against Northamptonshire declined a rich form of form for the Jersey International who has passed 50 points in six consecutive innings for club and country, including back-to-back centuries in the Metro Bank One Day Cup and a list of a best score of 175 in the ICC Challenge League.

Most expensive

Pace Bowler Saqib Mahmood was the most expensive English player at the auction by becoming a member of Pretoria Capitals for R1.5 million, where he will play alongside batters of top order Will Jacks and will retain those the only two English players who return to the same franchise.

Nottinghamshire Wicketkeeper Tom Moores earned a deal in the reigning champions Mi Cape Town, while 2025 lost Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the services of the highly appreciated Sussex all-rounder James Coles Coles Chrafty Left-Link-Link-Link.

In the meantime, after he has established himself as a leading overseas player in the Australian Big Bash League for nine consecutive seasons, James Vince will have a new environment this winter, because he was signed in advance by the Joburg Super Kings, who also added experienced Bowlers Richard Gleeson and Reece Topley to their ranges.

Before the auction signing

England star Jos Butler was another signing before the auction, this time for the Durban Super Giants, just like the great Jonny Bairstow that was locked up by Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Elsewhere, Somerset -Duo Lewis Gregory and Craig Overton were both sold under the hammer to Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals, both planned for their second Stints in the competition.

James Anderson and Meeen Ali belonged to the big names that were registered to be unsold, just like the in-shape Jordan Cox, although it is believed that the hundred winner has drawn a lucrative deal with Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 competition that runs parallel to the SA20.

Remarkable

Leus du Plooy of Middlesex was another remarkable omission after three successful years at the Joburg Super Kings, with the seventh leading run scorer of the competition, perhaps a victim of his now qualified overseas status in England.

South -Africa test and one day Captain Temba Bavuma did not receive freeers, although the legend Imran Tahir returned to the Super Kings in the last round of the auction at the age of 46.

Dan Laygan, 19, is a name to keep an eye on when he was picked up by Mi Cape Town, with the Slagman, born in South Africa, who is currently in the books in Worcestershire as an overseas player with a view to local and was impressive in his debut.

Considered as one of the most exciting talents in the world cricket, Dewald Brevis did not surprisingly stall the headlines when the 22-year-old destroyed the record by becoming the most expensive player in the SA20 auction history when Pretoria Capitals, led by new coach Sourav Ganguly, made an Intense Bodonne bidding to a large-blending wallet (almost £ 700,000).

Broken Record

Aiden Markram, who supplied South Africa in the T20 stage of the running White Ball series against England, had previously also broken the record of Tristan Stubbs in the inaugural auction, when he was picked up by Durban Super Giants for R14 million after the Sunrisers had their rights.

The six franchises spent a total of R129.3 million, of which R22.8 million was invested in emerging U23 players, an indication of the growth and impact that this competition has had on the domestic cricket in South Africa since the founding in 2023 and why many think that it is now the lead -upcoming franchisetoi.

The fourth edition of the Betway SA20 starts on December 26, a little earlier than the normal start date to meet the T20 World Cup in February.
