A CEO of Riverland has been shocked after each of the nearly 60 properties that his advice sold by force as a final attempt to restore more than $ 170,000 to unpaid rates that are sold under the hammer.

The district Council of Loxton Waikerie took on Thursday 57 properties at the auction – mainly deceased estates – with the parties a mix of houses, forested area retention, the cropping of land and empty land.

The 58 properties that were planned to go under the hammer were in Alawoona, Bugle Hut, Caliph, Kringin, Maggea, Malpas, Meribah, Murbko, Paruna, Pyap, Taldra, Talpan, Veitch, Woodleigh and Wuikrokar, but only Wuchtadieblar – – – -only the awuClay -Blokkar – – – -Wuikerie -Blokkar -only the aerie -Blokkar -one -blush -Blunkcock – – -but only the aerie -Blokkar -one -block -one, one -block -one -blush -one, one -blush -one, one of the aerie, one, one -blush -one, but only the aerie -Blokkar, and Wuikeklok -Blokkar.

David Beaton, Chief Executive of the Council, said he was happy with the result.

“In the end I expected that I would sell five or six out of 57,” said Mr Beaton.

“The vacant good things varied from $ 1000 to $ 40,000 and there was one house that went for $ 180,000 – the total for the 57 was just over $ 500,000.

“We can only reclaim the rates, we have to pass on the rest of the funds to the mortgage holder and the people who possess the property.

“But we have enough to restore the debt and that is a fantastic result.

“It gets all those properties in the hands of new people, and many of them were bought by people who were not necessarily the locals – there were a number of people from Adelaide, people from the Interstate, including New South Wales and Victoria, so they were brought out of the woodwork, so that was good.

“Some blocks are quite insulated and one person brought 18, so that has brought a kind of floor to the market, so that was good.”

Mr Beaton told the advertiser prior to the sale that the auctions allowed the municipality to remove them from the books.

He also said that the council “didn’t really expect to sell anything.”

“If we did that, I would be surprised and you think they would sell for sub-$ 1000,” he said.

“If the properties do not sell, the action can give them back to the crown so that they will not build up rates.”
