Rory McIlroy believes that Europe’s Ryder Cup team should follow the example of the Grand Slam record holder Novak Djokovic when it comes to dealing with American hostility in New York this month.
Djokovic, an avid golfer himself, delivered a Peptalk with the team for their thunderous victory in Rome two years ago, and last week McIlroy was depicted to the court and looked at the Serbian in the US Open only a few hours after the Noord -man had ended the Tour Championship in Atlanta.
McIlroy, in the K Club near Dublin this week for the Irish Open, tailored to Tuesday evening to see that Djokovic defeated the American home favorite Taylor Fritz in their quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows and De Wereld No. 2 Golfer believes that he picked up a few tips for the trip of the Europa-Team.
“It was a very pro-American crowd. He was the best in dealing with that,” said McIlroy, who won his only Irish open title on this course nine years ago. “He has had to deal with it all his life, whether it’s playing against an American in New York or playing against Roger [Federer] or Rafa [Nadal].
“He came and spoke a bit about that stuff last time in Rome, so maybe [it’s about] Remove a magazine from his book and channel that energy in the right way. All we can do is control our reaction and our emotions on it. I think the less we play in it, the better it is for us. “
After Luke Donald had made the picks of his six captain on Monday, which means that an unprecedented 11 of the 12 players who overcome the US in Rome, McIlroy said they were the “right 12 players”. And after a milestone year personally when he completed the Grand Slam career by winning the Masters, he wants to exceed his own expectations.
“Of course I would like to win this week, I would like to win it next week at Wentworth [the BMW Championship]”Said McIlroy, who signed up with Captain A Four-Man team against the World No 1 Scottie Scheffler in the Golf Channel Games in December in Trump National Golf Club in Florida.
“But if we won a road Ryder Cup with everything else I experienced this year, 2025 would be the best year of my career.”
