Los Angeles Lakers forward Rui Hachimura spoke during practice on Sunday and expressed confidence in his recovery ahead of Monday’s game against the Sacramento Kings at the Golden 1 Center.

When asked how it felt to be back on the field after missing time with a calf injury, Hachimura said, “Yes, I’m doing well. I think it’s been almost two weeks. My calf is healed and yes, we are practicing.”

Hachimura explained that the team explored multiple options during his recovery, including time in the G League, as he worked to return safely.

Practicing with the G League group provided a different environment, which Hachimura welcomed. “I mean, it’s different, you know. I think there’s a few guys I knew with us too,” he said, referring to previous connections and familiarity with coaches he worked with earlier in his career.

Calf injuries often raise concerns about ongoing problems, something Hachimura recognized from experience. “I’ve had it… for two years. It’s a different side, but… the calf is very important,” he said, adding that fatigue and recovery can significantly impact availability if not managed carefully.

When asked directly whether he expected to play on Monday evening, Hachimura sounded optimistic. “Yes, I think so. Yes, I think I felt good after that, but I had to check with the trainers and everyone,” he said, noting that final approval would come later.

Hachimura also addressed his contract situation, as he will be a free agent after this season, and made it clear that this has not changed his approach. “At the end of the day, you know, I gotta… help this team win,” he said. “I’ve been here three, four seasons now… I love these guys.”

He emphasized the need to remain present as the season enters the second half. “I just try to focus on every day, just on the moment,” Hachimura said, noting the importance of stepping up the game as the schedule tightens.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick labeled Hachimura as one of the team’s top catch-and-shoot options, a role the forward has committed to since joining the roster. “Especially playing with LeBron, AD and now Luka… these guys are getting a lot of attention,” Hachimura said. “Those are… my favorite things to do right now.”

Hachimura added that playing alongside stars like LeBron James has expanded his offensive game. “I’ve expanded my game a lot,” he said, noting continued comfort on mid-range shots while adding consistency on the perimeter.

The Lakers enter Monday’s 10:00 PM ET tipoff sitting in fifth place in the Western Conference at 23-13, while Sacramento is 14th at 9-30, making availability decisions closely watched as Los Angeles looks to maintain its position.
