Ruben Amorim provides injury update on Maguire and Mount ahead of the Brighton match

Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Manchester United could be without both Harry Maguire and Mason Mount when they host Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

The Portuguese coach has finally found momentum at Old Trafford, guiding the Red Devils to back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time in his 11-month tenure.

With confidence restored, United are now chasing a third straight league win – a feat they have not achieved since August 2024 – and they look well placed to achieve it this weekend.

However, Amorim revealed this during his pre-Brighton press conference on Friday that Maguire and Mount had suffered ‘bumps’ after last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Liverpool.

Maguire was the hero in that game, scoring an 84th-minute winner at Anfield, while Mount was part of the attacking trio.

While Amorim played down the severity of both players’ blows, he admitted a final decision still needs to be made on their availability for Saturday’s clash with Brighton.

‘The team is fine. We have some doubts; we had some problems during the week with Harry Maguire and Mason Mount. True, but nothing serious. We’ll see tomorrow,” Amorim said.

Maguire’s late winner at Anfield has once again focused attention on his future, with the 32-year-old’s current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

When asked about the defender’s contract situation, Amorim declined to reveal whether extension talks were underway, but hinted that the club remains satisfied with the player’s contributions.

During Friday’s press conference, he said:

‘We are very happy with Harry, but it is not the time to talk about that. That gives the idea that we are thinking very far away; what we need to think about now. We are very happy with Harry; he is very important for us, but we just have to focus on the next game.”

United’s recent record against Brighton makes the upcoming match even more important as they have suffered six defeats in their last seven Premier League meetings, twice as many as in their first seventeen meetings with the Seagulls (W12 D2 L3).

Determined to reverse that trend, the Red Devils are looking to end their three-match losing streak against Brighton at Old Trafford and record three consecutive league wins for the first time between May and August 2024 – a milestone they last achieved in a single season in February 2024, when they recorded four consecutive wins.
