Royals keep Salvador Perez on a two-year, $25 million extension

The Royals catcher signed a two-year contract extension that replaces a club option that Kansas City had for 2026, the team announced Tuesday evening.

The team has not released any financial details for the new deal, but The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed this the expansion is worth $25 million.

According to MLB.com, Perez’s deal includes a $7 million signing bonus and deferred money.

“Salvy is a Royals legend and one of the most important players this franchise has ever had,” Royals general manager JJ Picollo said in a statement Tuesday. “We had the option for next year, but everyone knew we wanted to make sure his legacy with us would last longer. We appreciate Salvy’s commitment to the Royals and we are as excited as our fans.”

Perez’s 2026 club option was worth $13.5 million, including a $2 million buyout.

The 35-year-old has spent his entire 15-year MLB career with the Royals, becoming captain in 2023.

Perez has been a nine-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove winner over the course of his career.

He helped the Royals win the World Series in 2015, beating the Mets in five games, and Perez was named World Series MVP that year.

Perez has hit .264/.301/.457 with 1,016 RBIs during his time in the major leagues.

The Royals catcher is second all-time in franchise history in home runs (303), second in RBIs (1,106), third in extra-base hits (634), sixth in hits (1,712) and seventh in games (1,707).

He played in 155 games during the 2025 season and hit 30 home runs – the ninth consecutive full season with at least 20 home runs – while posting a .284 batting average.

The Royals are coming off a 2025 season in which they finished 82-80 after a year in which they made a surprise appearance in the postseason.
