Me and Nelly hereby say thank you and hello to our first “own” week without Tobias in trouble. The days have flowed into a beautiful mix of routines and everyday life, framed by the sound of palm trees and the sound of waves. School, training, work, beach life, dinners and action – then it all starts again. Later tonight I’ll wrap up this week where the last one started, with Yin Yoga at Oasis.

The wise words of our instructor Farra have stayed with me all week. “What are you grateful for today? Sometimes it’s everything. Sometimes it’s everything.” A good reminder to ask myself every day what I am grateful for. Sometimes the answer is everything – other days it’s hard to think of even one little thing.

The beach walk home after yoga is absolutely filled with gratitude. This Sunday evening was followed by rain almost all of Monday. We are not used to that here at this time of year…

…but soon everything was back to normal, with SUP paddling and crab hunting on the beach.

Nelly’s friend discovered a very scary creature at the edge of the beach. One of our friends here said he has never seen anything like it, despite living in Thailand for 20 years. After some Google image searching, we were able to determine that it was some kind of snail. ChatGPT responded that it was a jellyfish, but that was wrong: it had both a pair of eyes on top and a mouth underneath. Strange type indeed!

I, who especially love the first meal of the day, tend to be quite monotonous here when it comes to breakfast. It’s the same combination almost every morning. A jar of vanilla yogurt from 7/11 with muesli from Lanta Mart. That’s also where the coarse bakery bread that we bake with Bregott comes from (yes, we bring a few frozen packages from home in the suitcase). The bread is topped with banana from the local market, where we also buy the melon. The wine glass is filled with Sealyte, a fluid substitute with electrolytes. They can be purchased almost anywhere. To prevent dehydration, I stick to my tradition of drinking (at least) one sachet per day. Preferably mix the powder with soda water and fill it with ice cubes, because then it is so much tastier and more festive! Nelly prefers plain water.
And speaking of Nelly! We really got into a good mood here. If we get wind of it, we’ll go for a walk…

…for a night of shopping at 7/11. There is always something new on the shelves, most recently a lip oil that I immediately bought. Was probably influenced by the fact that a friend back home in Sweden recently suggested lip oil in his Insta stories completely randomly. I don’t remember seeing this lip option before? The more wrinkles I get around my mouth, the less eager I am to use regular lipstick that “bleeds” a bit. Yes, that’s how a grown woman speaks in her prime.

The walks are occasionally concluded with a cup of coffee from a mop. Thai pancakes are hard to get tired of!

Almost next door to 7/11 is Mr DIY, which I’ve probably mentioned here on the blog before. I recently bought some new travel essentials and a cute little heart purse. Nelly bought a small “toast lamp” here for her bedroom. It’s cute.

Recently we passed another shop/garage/storage that we obviously had to investigate. No one knows exactly how to name this location. Considering the number of cats (and the food bowls on display) in the building, it might as well have been a cat shelter.

One of the evenings Nelly ran to our friend Pokey – who has a massage parlor here – for the traditional braids (200 baht for 6 braids + beads). They, the braids, become more and more discreet as the children get older. Next year might be the end of the little braids in this family? Sad thought. We completed it with a flower behind the ear for the ultimate holiday look.

A photo taken from our balcony towards the apartment. So this is where we spend our (indoor) time on Koh Lanta!

Clothes are always hanging somewhere to dry. If they are not wet with sweat, it is seawater or just moisture in general. Not against me actually, I’d rather be too hot than too cold. By the way, I am sending that with a friendly request not bring your absolute favorite pieces here! They are bleached, discolored or abused by washing, sun, wind, water and sunscreen.

Another tip is to buy sunscreen at home, here they are expensive and often with a lot of scent. I love the spray function and texture of Avène – which is extra good for sensitive skin. On the other hand, I’m still struggling with which moisturizers to use for the eczema skin in the family. Here at the pharmacy they suggested Eucerin’s ATO – Soothing Face Cream, which both Nelly and I are now using. It’s one of the better ones we’ve tried (and trust me, we’ve tried A LOT!). We’ve used it so much that we had to buy a new one yesterday. The 999 baht price tag is a clear indication that it is not a local brand.

It was Friday and time for the usual fun in Saladan, where we were welcomed with a blazing sky. Beautiful! I took a photo of myself wearing the Sam Batik Sarong number. Painting sarongs is one of the things we hope to do with my sister when she comes to visit.

There were (surprise!) many beach walks and runs along the beach. I want to squeeze out every little microsecond in bare feet.

During the early morning sessions I am accompanied by Thais looking for shells. They know exactly where they are!

There is nothing new on the Eastern Front: it turns out that I take similar photos every time we are on Koh Lanta. The only difference is that this year I have a new cap. A dark blue. Again.

After the walks I may treat myself to a visit to the gym as well “All day breakfast”-tray with omelette at Healthy Bar. Here it is quite easy to choose the right one. However, as soon as I land in Arlanda, I am overcome by the usual craving for sugar, which greedily tears and tears me apart from morning to night. Very strange, but very true. Has anyone experienced the same?
Yes. This is what it looked like, our fourth week on Koh Lanta. A nice one!
