Rotterdam choices: Auger-Aliassime vs. Bublik, De Minaur vs. Humbert

A blockbuster semi-final line-up in Rotterdam features the top three seeds: Alex de Minaur, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alexander Bublik. Auger-Aliassime and Bublik will face off, while De Minaur will face Ugo Humbert.

(3) Alexander Bublik vs. (2) Felix Auger-Aliassime

Auger-Aliassime and Bublik will face each other for the seventh time in their careers when they meet again on Saturday in the semi-finals of the ABN AMRO Open. The head-to-head series stands at 4-2 in favor of Auger-Aliassime, who won both their meetings in 2025: 7-6(7), 6-7(4), 6-3 at the Dubai ATP 500 and 7-6(3), 6-4 in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters.

Both boys have had excellent seasons and show no signs of slowing down this year. Auger-Aliassime captured the Montpellier title last week and advanced in Rotterdam with direct victories over Alexei Popyrin, Hamad Medjedovic and Tallon Greekpoor. Bublik battled to the last four by beating Hubert Hurkacz, Jan-Lennard Struff and Jaume Munar in three sets – the latter in a decisive tiebreak. It was a tough week for the 10th-ranked Kazakh, after the home Davis Cup match against Monaco. Auger-Aliassime, on the other hand, is well rested and absolutely rolling.

(1) Alex de Minaur vs. Hugo Humbert
De Minaur is one win away from a third trip in a row to the Rotterdam final. The 26-year-old Australian finished second behind Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in the past two seasons. He is 16-2 lifetime at this ATP 500 event against opponents outside the top four, and so far this week De Minaur has dismissed Arthur Fils, Stan Wawrinka and Botic van de Zandschulp.

My demon

The next step for the top seed is an eighth showdown against Humbert, who is trailing 5-2 in the head-to-head series. The 36th-ranked Frenchman triumphed in the 2020 Antwerp final but lost their most recent indoor hard court match via a 7-6(2), 6-3 decision in the 2023 Davis Cup competition. Humbert is competing in his second final of the season after finishing second in Adelaide to Tomas Machac in January. While Humbert looked good in knocking out Daniil Medvedev, Guy Den Ouden and Christopher O’Connell, De Minaur is a completely different beast – yes, even compared to Medvedev at the moment. The world number 8 has had the upper hand in this match and he absolutely loves Rotterdam, so there is no reason to think anything will change on Saturday.
