The Phoenix Suns have set up three rookies this summer, and two of them are already very logical on this new version of the selection. With the Front Office again built around Devin Booker, they needed a young center to go through them for the rest of the decade. That is where 18-year-old Khaman Maluach enters the photo, even if he looked incredibly raw in Summer League.
Then there is Koby Brea – who in his own short Stint in Las Vegas – draws comparisons with none other than Booker himself with a part of his midrange scoring and how he wears himself on the field. Being stylistically compared with a franchise, big brings a lot of pressure, but Brea is in the right place to learn from Booker and bring a scoring track to the second unit.
Rasheer Fleming will bring defensive intensity.
The least fanfare so far has been transferred to Rasheer Fleming – the forward from St. Josephs – but you can also make the case that he will be the Rookie that contributes the most. The Suns would like Maluach to be the man who does this – he both fulfills a position of great need and was their single lottery choice – but it will take time for him to find his feet.
Fleming recently spoke with Duane Rankin by The Republic of Arizona“ And it was encouraging to defend when he spoke about how good a player he hopes to be as he said that “honestly, my main goal is clearly the best player I can be, but I think I can do that by starting the defensive end.”

In that end, the Suns have been terrible in the past seasons – they gave up 117.7 points per match last season, only three teams admit more – and are now dedicated to the construction of that area of the court first. That is why Maluach was so tempting his enormous framework, but the addition of Dillon Brooks is going to do wonders, both for the entire team and the development of Fleming.
He is not going to start – that is Ryan Dunn’s place to lose now and he is also a budding defensive threat – but Fleming could practice a nice role for himself on the second unit. If he can combine it with some centers, while he can successfully chase smaller ahead around the circumference, the Suns have a player in his hands.
The fact that Fleming himself knows that this is where he is going to pick up minutes – even in a selection that is no longer trying to fight – is also a great sign. These are the players whose Front Office hopes that they will be key role in the future, while they also replace the kind of veterans that Phoenix let for nothing this season. Fleming will be a great addition to the valley.
