Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano will meet in a blockbuster main event for Netflix’s debut MMA event on May 16.
In partnership with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), Neflix will be launching an absolutely massive card later this year featuring the mixed martial arts returns of both Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano. Rousey last competed almost a decade ago in a one-sided TKO loss to Amanda Nunes, while Carano’s last fight came in August 2009, when she was also defeated by TKO, but in this case by Cris Cyborg.
Ronda Rousey then enjoyed a stint in professional wrestling, most notably with WWE, with rumors swirling in recent months that she could be preparing for a return to mixed martial arts. As for Carano, she moved into the acting world, but her most notable role in The Mandalorian ended controversially in 2021.
Netflix has the following statement confirming that Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano will go down at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California in a five-round featherweight bout.
Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano set for Netflix showdown
“After the record-breaking success in boxing, we wanted our first MMA event to be truly legendary,” said Gabe Spitzer, Netflix VP Sports. “These are more than just athletes – they are generational stars, and having them headline our MMA debut at the Intuit Dome is a defining moment for us.”

As you can imagine, the MMA world is already buzzing with news that both Rousey and Carano will be venturing back into the cage. While there’s no telling what either will look like considering how long it’s been since we’ve seen them, you can bet there will be a lot of eyes on this match.
At the time of writing, it’s not yet known who will be part of the rest of the card, but we imagine the announcements will come thick and fast in the coming weeks as anticipation builds.
