Andy Foster, executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, told ESPN that both fighters will undergo extensive concussion testing, prompted in part by comments Rousey made during an Instagram Live appearance two years ago. While promoting her book Our strugglethe former UFC bantamweight champion revealed a long history of concussions dating back to her judo career, admitting that she withheld that information from the UFC and regulators out of fear it might have prevented her from competing.
“We’re going to get her neurological and concussion tests and make sure she’s OK. We’ll have our doctors look at it. The fighters are going to have to do a lot of medical tests, both of them,” Foster said.
“As long as these women pass their medicals and all their neurological batteries and do the things they’re supposed to do, there’s nothing wrong with this fight.”
Rousey vs. Carano takes place on May 16th at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, CA. The film will air on Netflix under the banner of MVP Promotions.
