Rodgers calls Premier League a ‘holiday’ compared to Celtic

Brendan Rodgers has said managing in the Premier League is ‘like a holiday’ compared to expectations at Celtic.

Celtic take on Dundee in the Scottish Premier League on Sunday, with the champions in second place in unfamiliar territory. Surprise leaders Hearts have the lead, with Celtic looking to chase the Edinburgh side.

Rodgers is in his second spell at Celtic Park, a spell that has brought four league titles and a wealth of domestic cups. He previously coached in the Premier League, most notably at Liverpool and Leicester City.

The 52-year-old believes only a handful of clubs can match the ‘unique pressures’ that come with managing Celtic. Discussing expectations, he said Celtic must win ‘every game’ and do it in style.

“It really is a unique pressure. In terms of pressure, Celtic are number one among the most pressured courts in football,” he told the BBC.

“Even when I was Liverpool manager, you might have drawn with Manchester United and wanted to win, but it wouldn’t have been the worst result. At Celtic the expectation is to win every game and not just win the game but to do so in a style that is synonymous with the club.”

“The club was the first British team to win the European Cup. They did it in a style that defined the DNA of this club. It’s not just about winning. It’s Celtic, it really is more than that.”

“The mental strength you have to show here as a player, as a manager, in the spotlight is enormous. You can go to a lot of teams in the Premier League and it would be a holiday compared to managing Celtic and Rangers for that matter.”
