Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards has been asked by Wolves about a move to the Premier League talkSPORT.
Middlesbrough is thriving under new manager Rob Edwardssecond in the table after twelve games and just three points behind high-flying Coventry City.
Edwards’ side have suffered just two defeats so far, collecting 25 points and finishing three points ahead of the teams outside the play-off places. They also recently achieved victory by beating Ipswich Town 2-1 at the Riverside just four games ago.
Performance since then hasn’t been ideal for Boro, but results still looked positive. However, that all came to an end this weekend as they were beaten 3-0 by Watford, in a real reality check result for Middlesbrough.
The weekend doesn’t get much better for Boro as Edwards is now linked with a move after just four months in charge. According to talkSPORTEdwards has been asked by Wolves about their vacant managerial role.
Wolves have sacked Vitor Pereira after the defeat to Fulham this weekend, which leaves them on two points and bottom of the Premier League after ten games. Gary O’Neil is another candidate to take over, despite being sacked by the club last season.
Edwards has strong emotional ties to Wolves, so the link was inevitable. However, reporter Alex Krook has confirmed this is correct, but a deal will be difficult to achieve due to the compensation with Middlesbrough.
Rob Edwards’ Middlesbrough record
Would Edwards make that move at this stage?
Wolves’ position isn’t a particularly well-watched role at the moment. The club are not in a good place at the moment, which is made worse by their current position in the league.
As for Boro, they once again look like a club on the rise, and they have a great chance of promotion this year. There is a good chance that the two clubs will switch competitions at the end of the season.
In the short term it would be a step up for Edwards, and it would be easy to understand why he would want to move to a club he has such strong ties with. However, in the long run it could be a big mistake for him and a big loss for Boro.
Bad timing for Middlesbrough ahead of the crisis just days away
Saturday’s defeat to Watford was a major shock for Boro. It has made the two games taking place this week all the more important.
A trip to struggling Leicester City is scheduled for Tuesday, a match in which Boro will be favourites. Then Birmingham City comes to the Riverside on the weekend before the international break.
Edwards and his team hope to win again this week. However, these reports about Wolves’ interest do not come at a good time.
