River Dragons Boil Rock Lobsters, 8-4 | Pro Hockey News

Columbus, GA – The Columbus River Dragons defeated the Athens Rock Lobsters 8-4 on Saturday night.

The first period was tied between the River Dragons and the Rock Lobsters. Tyler Barrow, Chiwetin Blacksmith and Kevin Szabad scored goals for the River Dragons.

Brandon Picard and Eric Neiley scored goals for the Rock Lobsters and Joe Mack tied the game with a buzzer beater to end the first period 3-3.

The second period was dominated by the River Dragons. Tyler Barrow scored for Columbus, and Ryan Hunter buried one on a power play, leading Athens by two to end the second frame, 5-3.

There was a quick response from Athens in the final period of regulation, as Joe Mack scored the fourth and final goal of the night for the Rock Lobsters 79 seconds into the frame.

Columbus responded three times. Benjamin Pizzimenti squeezed one past Athens goaltender William Lavalliere at 9:47. Alex Storjohann and Ryan Galvin poured salt on Athens’ wounds, each producing close-range goals.

The night ended with the River Dragons winning their first W against the Rock Lobsters this season, claiming the win in regulation, 8-4.

Tyler Roy faced 38 shots from Athens, good for an SV% of 89.47 for the night.

Ryan Hunter, Benjamin Pizzimenti, Josh Colten, Alexander Jmaeff, Mike Winn and Alex Storjohann scored multiple points for Columbus, leading to their regular-season win.

The River Dragons are preparing for Friday’s showdown at home against the Twin City Thunderbirds, which will be their fifth game this season. The Puck Drop will take place Friday at 7:35 PM at the Columbus Civic Center.

The Rock Lobsters will compete at home against the Pee Dee Ice Cats on Saturday.
