Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has made an incredible claim about goalkeeper Senne Lammens after his heroics in the 1-0 win over Newcastle on Boxing Day.
Lammens shines against Newcastle
Lammens was one of the standouts as United took all three points against Newcastle to move up to fifth place in the Premier League.
Patrick Dorgu’s 24th-minute strike proved to be the decisive goal at Old Trafford. Newcastle pushed for an equalizer in the second half, but the Red Devils dug deep and had an answer for everything thrown at them.
The defensive unit was imperious, but so was Lammens, who set the tone from the start with an excellent save from a corner.
Lammens was especially crucial in the final minutes. He dominated his area by plucking the ball out of the air and taking the sting out of the match. It was another successful performance from the Belgian, who has transitioned seamlessly to life at United.
Speaking of his YouTube channel after the final whistle, Ferdinand praised Lammens while claiming he could be United’s main goalkeeper for the next decade.
Ferdinand makes a statement about Lammens
The ex-United defender said: “You know what, Lammens is a solid addition to this squad. He will undoubtedly be Manchester United’s goalkeeper for the next decade.”
“He’s as solid as a rock. No frills, he just gets it done. Look, you need him to claim it on the edge of his six-yard box, he comes and just takes one through bodies, beautiful to watch. You want a solid goalkeeper, you know where he’s going to be.”
Ferdinand added: “I bet he’s a boring guy, I bet there’s not much to that, but he’s intelligent, a nice guy, a really nice guy, but on a night out I don’t think he’d be one of those you’d want to spend most of the night with, no disrespect, most goalkeepers aren’t anyway.”
“But when you get on the football field you think ‘you know what, I hope he’s behind me’, he looks like that kind of person.”
“We have been looking for a consistent goalkeeper, someone who you know where he will be when you look around you.”
“In the last seven minutes of extra time he has come out and comfortably collected two balls in his six-yard area. Takes the pressure off the back four, absolutely life-saving if you are a defender.”
“It’s a great feeling to know where exactly your goalkeeper will be when you turn around and Lammens is one of them.”
United are next in action on Tuesday when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers.
