Reviews 2025 Atlanta Braves Prospect: Jose Perdomo

Jose Perdomo was the award signing during the Braves 2024 International Free Agent signing period. He was signed for almost the entire pool, coming in at $5 million.

Expectations were sky high for Jose Perdomo with many hoping he would find his way to full season ball. It also doesn’t help when you’re compared to Miguel Cabrera throughout the international period – so with that kind of praise, a lot of people expected a lot from Jose.

Results 2025
After dealing with a hamstring injury in 2024 that limited Jose to just eight games, there was hope that Jose would be ready for a full offseason in 2025. Unfortunately, the season started poorly, with some expecting Jose to be in better form – not that he was in bad form, just better form. It was a difficult season, as he hit .223/.275/.270 in 54 games. The strikeout rate wasn’t bad as it was 19.3%, but when your OBP is less than .300 despite a decent 6% walk rate, a bad contact story is being written. Jose had a GB% of 54.3% and a line drive percentage that dropped to 14%. The fact is that with someone of his pedigree, a 69 wRC+ season is bad. When you take into account that it was a complex ball, it’s even worse because he’s mainly dealing with fastballs at that level.

Jose was able to appear in 54 games and showed good health after dealing with a nagging hamstring for most of 2024. His strikeout rate was also solid at 19%.

Unfortunately, some things still went wrong. Jose stayed in the complex ball all season, which was a bit of a disappointment. Jose didn’t hit with much power – considering his .270 slugging percentage, and had only four stolen bases.

2026 will be a crucial year for Jose. He’ll likely start the season playing complex ball, as he hasn’t shown the success that would necessarily merit a promotion to Low-A. He’s considered one of the best international positional prospects in all of baseball and entering season three, it’s time to at least show flashes of the tools that earned him that huge signing bonus. While it is not necessary for Jose to leave this season as he is still only 19 years old, it is still important to see progress.
