The 2026 Ram 1500 Limited welcomes the beloved 5.7-liter HEMI V8, combining old-school American power with a cabin that’s among the most luxurious in the full-size truck segment.
After spending the weekend in Japan, a rich yet mind-boggling and disorienting experience, I needed some Americana back in my life after landing back home in Miami. And – oh boy! – did Ram delivering its legendary HEMI V8 powerplant in its most loaded premium trucks.
My tester for the week was the 2026 model year Ram 1500 Limited HEMI, a full-size truck in Granite Crystal Metallic and, I was assured, the “poshest” vehicle Ram produces in this 1500 range. Now for some background: Ram switched to turbocharged inline six-cylinder engines for 2025, and its customers… well, they’re downright hated it.
“Everyone makes mistakes, but how you deal with them defines you,” says CEO Tim Kuniskis. “Ram messed up when we dropped the HEMI – we own it and we fixed it.”
Powertrain: Why the HEMI Still Matters
Not that the Hurricane Straight Six Turbo is a bad engine; it’s more efficient and much more powerful than the HEMI, thanks to the fast-spooling turbos. And you can still get that powertrain. But you won’t, because if you like driving Ram trucks, then you’ll like the HEMI more. Because the HEMI sounds badass, especially when it echoes through the GT exhaust.
And the company doesn’t appear to be alone in the reverse ferret space, as Ford has pivoted its electrified truck program and recently ended production of the F-150 Lightning. Ford’s move marks the biggest reversal in the electric vehicle industry since President Donald Trump’s auto policy changes that ended tax breaks for all-electric vehicles, chilling already cooling demand for electric vehicles. Ram also quickly jumped on the “America First” bandwagon with patriotic TV commercials – titled “Ram-Demption” – featuring Kuniskis.

The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 produces 385 hp and 410 lb.-ft. of torque in a smooth, wide power band, enhanced with fuel-saving technologies such as variable camshaft timing and cylinder deactivation. Each HEMI-powered truck features a new fender-mounted “Symbol of Protest” emblem created by the Ram design team, but this is offset somewhat by a “1500 eTorque” emblem on the hood – personally, I would have preferred a HEMI mention here as well.
That eTorque system is a hybrid that supports the V8 engine. The system replaces the traditional engine-mounted alternator with a belt-driven engine-generator unit. The MGU operates with a 48-volt battery pack that provides quick and seamless engine start/stop, torque addition to the engine crankshaft in certain driving situations and braking energy regeneration, improving responsiveness and efficiency.
The system produces a maximum of 130 lb.-ft. torque that must be available when pressing the accelerator pedal. And torque is certainly not something this truck lacks!
Driving impressions: HEMI V8 Muscle meets Miami

Driving around the streets of Miami in such a huge truck would have to have been cumbersome, especially with the HEMI grunt under your right foot, but with air suspension all around (plus 5-link coils in the rear) the Ram 1500 Limited offered a rugged and engaging experience in everyday driving.
Nearly 400 horsepower on tap was easily enough to light up the rear end when you blast it away from traffic lights, even outside of Sport mode (which lowers the ride height and engages 4WD), and the Ram 1500 Limited HEMI really delivers the throaty exhaust note and traditional high-performance truck feel that many buyers have been asking for. I took it for a quick spin over some dirt in Off-Road mode, which raises the ride height even further, and it felt surprisingly nimble on gravel, too.
At least by truck standards, the Ram 1500 Limited looks great—especially from the front, with that huge RAM statement grille—and my $88,480 tester drew admiring looks, even among the supercar influencers creating content on the revamped streets of Key Biscayne, with the Miami skyline in the background.
Interior and technology: a luxury benchmark in truck transport

But on the inside, this truck really delivers, with oceans of leather with intricate stitching throughout, and even a real wood panel accent on the doors. It also features a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a 14.5-inch central touchscreen (with 360-degree camera system) and the driver gets a 12.3-inch configurable digital instrument cluster and a head-up display.
The passenger gets a separate 10.25-inch interactive touchscreen from the driver infotainment display, which functions independently of the driver’s Uconnect system, with HDMI input and device mirroring capability. The front seats are heated, ventilated and – crucial for long journeys – equipped with a massage function.
There’s a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and storage options everywhere. Pro tip: Fold down the middle seat of the rear seat and you have a truly luxurious four-seat cabin with armrests and power outlets for everyone. Another nice feature is the ‘Ram Box’ located above the rear wheels on the passenger side, a watertight lockable compartment that essentially works like a trunk, allowing you to keep your smaller travel luggage away from your cargo.
Verdict: Who is the Ram 1500 Limited for?
In the full-size truck landscape of 2026, the HEMI-equipped Ram 1500 Limited is a luxury beacon that plays with emotion and refinement rather than outright performance numbers. It may not tow the most, or have the greatest cargo capacity, but it’s the most comfortable and luxurious pickup in its class that wouldn’t look out of place as a practical piece in the background of a car collection.
With a base price starting at $75,405, it certainly feels more luxurious than comparable versions of the Ford F-150 Platinum, GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, or Chevrolet Silverado High Country, which tend to be more focused on craftsmanship than luxury, with tougher ride quality but superior towing and payload figures.
My advice is to load up on those optional extras. And when you start it up, that all-American V8 HEMI growl is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
