The Dolphin Cove Writers Festival is in full swing when retired crime writer Brendan Trapmore steals the spotlight with an announcement: his big comeback book, Branded. Shortly afterwards he is found dead in his villa, next to his desk, with the pen still in his hand. Brendan made a career out of claiming he had embedded himself in the criminal underworld, but it seems the real threat lay much closer to home.
The investigation focuses on his fellow panelists: literary rival Will, sharp-tongued publisher Miranda, conflicted ex-assistant and successful novelist Lena, and Lena’s wife Ginny. They were all standing in front of a live audience when he died.
So how did the killer strike without ever leaving his seat? Mackenzie Clarke is a master of facts, but she finds herself in a world of fiction – where every suspect knows how to spin a story.
