Return dates for Liverpool injuries: Wirtz, Frimpong, Isak and 7 others

Return dates for Liverpool injuries: Wirtz, Frimpong, Isak and 7 others

Liverpool currently have around 10 first-team players injured, but two key figures will return in the coming weeks.

The Reds have been poor this season; there is no escaping it.

However, if there is an Arne Slot defense possible, it is that the Reds have had some pretty bad luck with injuries.

This week there were ten faces missing who could have trained with the first team, but fortunately Florian Wirtz is expected to return for Saturday’s match against West Ham.

Florian Wirtz

type of injury: Back
Expected return: Westham (H)

Wirtz was forced to miss Liverpool’s victory over Nottingham Forest after picking up an injury during the warm-up at the City Ground.

Fortunately, the German won’t be out for long.

“We don’t think it is very serious, but he felt his back too much during the warm-up to start,” said Slot.

“We hope and expect that he can be with us again next week, but hey, you never know how things will turn out.”

type of injury: Lies
Expected return: Westham (H)

Jeremy Frimpong suffered another muscle injury, this time around the groin, against Qarabag at the end of January.

He has not yet been seen in training, but is expected back at the end of this week if Slot’s most recent update is correct.

“Jeremie will not be there this weekend. We hope he will be involved next week if everything goes according to plan,” the head coach said on February 19.

type of injury: Ankle, broken leg
Expected return: End of March

Alexander Isak was just starting to find some form when he suffered a broken leg while scoring against Tottenham in December.

“It will be there somewhere,” Slot said when asked if Isak was likely to return for Sweden’s World Cup play-off against Ukraine on March 26.

“Then the question is whether things are really going well or whether he will have a minor setback. It will be around that period, at the end of March, beginning of April, when he will hopefully be back with the group.”

Wataru Endo

type of injury: Single
Expected return: Unknown

Wataru Endo suffered a serious ankle injury against Sunderland earlier in February, so he will be “out for quite some time” according to the boss.

Slot hopes that he will be available again sometime this season. He said ten days ago: “There is certainly a chance, but he will be out for a while, but we cannot say exactly how long.”

Conor Bradley

type of injury: Knee
Expected return: Preseason

Conor Bradley’s bad luck of picking up injuries just as he was hitting his stride continued in January when he was struck by a season-ending knee injury against Arsenal.

He has since undergone surgery and will miss the rest of the campaign. However, there is some hope he can play for Northern Ireland in the World Cup if they reach the final starting on June 11.

Giovanni Leoni

type of injury: ACL
Expected return: Preseason

We may have seen Giovanni Leoni in action for less than 90 minutes, but it was enough to get excited about what’s to come from the youngster.

However, the 19-year-old 1.85 meter will not be in the red again until next season, due to the cruciate ligament injury he suffered in September.

Fortunately, he is on his way back to fitness and is in the rehabilitation phase of his recovery.

Vitezslav Jaros

type of injury: Knee
Estimated return: Preseason

Last week, Vitezslav Jaros became another Liverpool squad player hit by a long-term injury and forced to be recalled from his loan deal at Ajax.

The Czech goalkeeper has made 26 appearances for the Dutch giants but will now require surgery following a serious knee injury that should keep him out until the end of the season.

Jayden dance

type of injury: Hamstring
Expected return: Early March

It’s been a frustrating season for Jayden Danns, but he is finally returning to fitness after a series of hamstring problems.

Due to a tear, he had to undergo surgery at a time when he would otherwise have had opportunities in the first team in the absence of Isak.

This is Anfield understands the 20-year-old has started working without contact this week as he nears his return.

James McConnell

type of injury: Unknown (surgery)
Expected return: Early March

James McConnell was forced to return from his loan at Ajax due to a problem that required minor surgery.

We expect to see him in some capacity before the end of the season, although he is unlikely to see senior action this season, with training under Slot but game time for the under-21s the likely route to match the sharpness.

He was pictured alongside Danns and new centre-back Mor Talla Ndiaye on Wednesday as he worked non-contact with fitness rehabilitation coach Jordan Hunter.

Stefan Bajcetic

type of injury: Hamstring
Expected return: Unknown

After a promising spell at Las Palmas towards the end of last season, Stefan Bajcetic’s career has been hit with setback after setback this season.

Slot explained at the end of January: “Stefan, he is not training yet.

“He’s constantly getting close to the team and then he gets a little setback, then he gets close to the team and he gets a little setback.

“We hope and expect to have him back soon, but at that point he’s back training with us and he’s been out for six, seven, eight months without first-team training.

“So as much as I would like to have him back, we also have to meet expectations with him.”
